My Cichlid Fish Tank
This is a Red Oscar Cichlid fish. These fishes comes from South America and is found around the Amazon river area. They are scientifically known as Astronontus ocellatus. In my house, they live in a 245 litres tank and they share the tank with other cichlids which come from Africa (Lake Malawi). These fishes have been reported to grow anywhere between 9-11 inches. But the ones in my tank are about 7 inches and they are about 2yrs old now.. These fishes are have also been reported to be agressive but I have not found these fishes to be agressive in my tank. They don't really seem to be bothered by the other African cichlids that live with them. These fishes are very easy to maintain.. and have a very interesting character. They are very friendly and will swim up to you if you go towards the tank.. and if you train them, they will also jump off the water and grab food from your hand. They are also know for their mood swing. You can find them sulking in the corner of the tank and not moving around because probably there was a change in water or temp or setting of the tank.. or different food.
I feed them with Hikari Gold Cichlid pallets, Cichlid dinners, frozen worm, live worm and sometimes live fishes.
